Major League Girl Dads
A new movement was started when ESPN anchor Elle Duncan relayed a story about the late Kobe Bryant and his love for his daughters. “I would have five daughters if I could,” he once told Duncan. Bryant died tragically along with his beloved daughter, Gianna, this year in a helicopter crash. Thus, #GirlDad was born and momentum followed. From that moment on, many dads were celebrated for their relationships with their daughters.
Jeremy Hefner is one of them. The pitching coach for the New York Mets and a former major leaguer has three young daughters. Hefner, who hopes to begin his first year in the big leagues with the Mets, told CNN,
“My favorite part of being a girl dad is that no matter what’s going on in our lives they bring us back to center. A center surrounded by a playful spirit and donuts!”
The #GirlDad movement has given players from all across the game the chance to express their love for their daughters and the proud fathers posted pictures with them.

Chicago Cubs pitcher, Casey Sadler, tweeted a photo of himself and his daughter with the caption, “GirlDad and proud of it.”
Even Alex Rodriguez, former Yankees superstar and current ESPN sports anchor, weighed in on his love for his daughters:
“I’m so proud and lucky to be a #GirlDad.”
