Great Britain’s Brightest Race Car Driver Is A Young Woman
Jamie Chadwick might be the best race car driver to come out of the United Kingdom, and she’s only 22 years old.
Chadwick’s interest in driving started when she raced karts at 11 years old. Ever since then, she’s been racing her way to the top.
Her first taste of top finishes came in 2014 at the Ginetta Junior Championship. She finished in 8th place. After that stellar performance, she won the British GT Championship, driving an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4, just one year later. The victory not only made Chadwick the younger driver to win the competition at age 17, but also the first woman to do so.
Chadwick isn’t just a champion on the track; her work ethic and dedication to her craft has made her a champion for women everywhere.

“I’ve always thought of myself as just another racer,” Chadwick said in an interview with Autocar. “For me, it’s a nice novelty to have the accolade as the youngest and the first female to win British GT, but I’d be no different if I were a 40-year-old male. It makes no difference to me responsibility-wise or pressure-wise.”
Chadwick’s biggest racing accomplishment is winning the Williams Formula 1 Race in 2019. Her debut marked the first time a woman had ever raced (or won) a Formula 1 Grand Prix since the 1970s, when Lella Lombardi sat behind the wheel.
For the people who think that girls have no place in the racing world, Chadwick has one response to them.
“There are people who think, OK, you’re good for a girl, but you might not necessarily make it to the top,” Chadwick told The Guardian. I see it as motivation. I genuinely believe that it is possible and, if not me, there is a female out there who is definitely capable.”
