The WNBA continues to rally together for the release of Phoenix Mercury Guard Brittney Griner, as her detainment in Russia surpasses 100 days. Griner was first detained on Feb. 17 earlier this year at a Moscow Airport because security found a cartridge with cannabis oil in it. Cannabis is illegal in Russia, and officials say that Griner’s earliest possible release date is June 18.

“You say she’s top priority, but I want to see it,” said Cherelle Griner, Brittney’s wife, on Good Morning America. “I feel like to see it would be to see BG back on U.S. soil… I just keep hearing that, you know, [President Biden] has the power. She’s a political pawn, so if they’re holding her because they want you to do something, then I want you to do it.”

The Indiana Fever have relieved Head Coach Marianne Stanley of her position and former assistant coach Carlos Knox will be serving in her place until a full-time replacement is found.

It has also come out that Los Angeles Sparks star Liz Cambage had directed a racial slur to players on Nigeria’s national team prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Cambage, who represents Australia, withdrew from the Olympics to "take care of myself mentally and physically.”

Additionally, fans, players, and coaches alike have not been happy with some of the officiating in the NWSL games. Washington Spirit head coach Kris Ward spoke out about the referees in a press conference, saying that he believes his players have been failed by them throughout the season thus far. Missing calls can lead to injuries, especially if a game gets too out of hand. Ward was fined for what he said, according to the NWSL.
